I bought my first Nikon D100 way back I think in 2002. It was my first digital SLR camera so I was very please with the purchase and myself for making the serious re-commitment to photography. I was enthralled with the way I could immediately review the pictures that I had taken, and how unlike film, I had immediate access to the images for download and post production on my computer.
The Nikon D100 I bought cost me around 900 GBP. I bought it brand new at the time, and once it was delivered, I immediately discarded the manual and began to play with my new toy. Buying a digital SLR at that time mean that you could get images much larger than any of the digital compacts. Also being an SLR camera, it meant that you could get much better pictures using a variety of Nikon mount lenses, so if you already had nikon fit camera lenses for a film SLR, then you didn't have to worry about buying a whole new set.

The Nikon D100 was simplicity itself to use, and for around 3 years it did me well. That was until I started to move into more serious portrait photography working with flash, and in the studio. I was disheartened greatly whan I discovered that the DSLR i had bought had no flash cable connect socket, and I would need to trigger the studio flash heads using the onbody TTL Flash. This spoiled the shoot, so the very next day, I ordered the newer D200 and since then it has been giving me the best pictures I could have desired.
The Nikon D100 that I bought, served it's purpose for the time I had it, however as time and technology moves on, I found I had to upgrade as it was no longer fit for purpose. I stil use it as a backup, so it's not entirely retired as yet. They will become collectibles in the future so I think I may just hang on to mine.
